Cuddling Koalas
Cairns Tropical Zoo is one of the few zoos in Australia where you can "Cuddle a Koala." It's actually banned in Sydney. Knowing this information, I made sure that this was on our checklist. After a 20 minute bus ride, here we are. The animal lover in me felt a little sympathy for the guy - so, I inquired about their safety and well-being. Turns out, they only bring them out no more than 3 times a week and only for short periods at a time (about an hour). If they get fussy in any way, shape or form, they go back to their eucalyptus tree. I'm still not convinced that it's okay, but I'm still glad I had the opportunity to do this. It was just like carrying a baby (same weight as a 6 month old child) only it's super plush.
