Seattle, Washington

[January 2008]

This past weekend, I discovered how beautiful of a city Seattle is. To me, it resembles a smaller, cleaner San Francisco full of artsy people, curious tourists and amazing architecture. We stayed at "The Maple" which was just a few blocks from Broadway and such a quick drive to EVERYTHING, especially using the navigation system we requested with our rental! Our first evening was spent having a few drinks at Viceroy and strolling around town in the downtown area. The drinks were unbelievably cheap and the shots were huge! Viceroy also played a good combination of hits. For a past-midnight snack, we indulged in Cheeseburgers, fries and a chocolate milkshake from Dick's. Btw, people out there like to put Tartar sauce on their burgers and it's not too bad!

The following day, we took an elevator to the top of the Space Needle where we had brunch followed by the Lunar Orbiter. The dessert sits on top of dry ice and they've been serving it since the 70's. Yum!

After lunch, we found ourselves walking through the Pike Place Market where you can find anything from jewelry, fish, artwork, flowers to souvenirs, produce, posters and more! Watch out for flying fish! Later, we visited "The Ave.", went to a Pub or two then ate at Charlies on Broadway. We were going to go to a club, but got way too tired and wanted to save our energy for the next day.

The next morning, we drove to the Olympic Sculpture Park for the "Where Earth Meets Art" pieces. I absolutely love love love this place. It's such a nice park to walk around in, take pictures and just enjoy the fresh air and spectacular view. Although it was chilly, we managed to keep ourselves warm with hot tea. After walking around and taking pictures, we built up an appetite for SEAFOOD so we went to Ivar's on the pier for the seafood (and prime rib) buffet - talk about comatosed! We also visited Pioneer Square which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Seattle and of course, a Sunday is not complete without football (right Craig?) so we squeezed in the New England game at the Pig and Thistle pub.

That evening, we had reservations at the PINK DOOR, my new favorite restaurant. The food was d-lish and the trapeze artist was awesome. After dinner, we went to the Lava Lounge for a drink. It was a total dive bar, but of course with a whole lotta character.

Our last day finally came and we spent it by first having chili at Mike's Chili Parlor, as seen on the FOOD NETWORK. It was pretty hearty, so hearty that I wanted to go to sleep after. Oh and if you get the onions on it, beware - you will taste it ALL DAY! We then went back to Pike Place to buy fresh fish for our families and by visiting the original Starbucks. I loved that they kept their original logos.

All in all it was a fun trip. I loved Seattle Thanks Craig for such a great present! I can't wait to go back and try another dish at the Pink Door! (Not sure if I left anything out, but if I did, I'll remember to add it in later!)
